The Web - Web 1.0

Web 1.0, also referred to as the "Static Web," is the first stage of the development of the World Wide Web, roughly spanning the years 1989 to 2005. Static web pages, mostly read-only and lacking in user-generated content and interactive aspects, were the trademarks of this web era. Web 1.0 sites were made with simple HTML and provided linear, static material with minimal user interaction. While users may traverse the text using hyperlinks throughout, the content was neither dynamically generated nor tailored. Static material, little interaction, and centralized content creation were the hallmarks of Web 1.0. The majority of user activity on websites was limited to reading information and clicking on links that were maintained by private individuals or groups. These online pages, sometimes organized into directories for easier surfing, were seen with Netscape Navigator and Internet Explorer, two of the earliest browsers. The internet was just getting started at this time, with a focus more on information sharing than user engagement.
